Me & My Mama's Tattoo
by Lynne D. Shipley
“Me & My Mama’s Tattoo” is the tale of seven stories that changed her interpretation of classroom management and teaching techniques. Ms. Shipley changed her tactics from punitive to restorative and created a safe classroom environment where students became comfortable in learning about the unknown. These stories were written to encourage teachers to build relationships with students so they can learn and achieve to the best of their abilities. Now is the time to learn to teach each student, regardless of race, class, creed, color or religion.
Lynne Shipley is an educational leader who believes teachers lead by example. As a teacher’s kid (TK), she came to the field of education as a third career. After working in radio and printing, Ms. Shipley earned her Master’s degree in Information Technology. During her studies, she realized most students of color were computer users, but not innovators. This spurred her desire to teach students in the urban core about the possibilities technology offers. In 2004, she moved to Kansas City, MO to begin her teaching career.
