Marketing Moves with High Upside

Every business owner knows that the key to success in business requires making money. If you’re not making money, you won’t be in business too long. So, in order to do that, you’ll need customers, and to get your customers, you must market and promote your products or services.

And though it sounds simple enough, marketing – especially on a low budget – can be a challenge. Because it’s a necessary component of your business, you’ve got to get it done. Luckily for you, there are a myriad of ways to get the word out about your company. Here’s 2 low-cost, and potential high upside ideas.

     1.
Keep Abreast of What Customers Want
It’s much easier to market to your audience effectively if you know what their chief concerns and desires are. That means staying on top of what’s important to your customers. When you stay current, your customers will find what you are offering to be more relevant and are more likely to purchase something.

     2. Take Advantage of Current Events
Real life incidents can be a great a way to turn something topical into marketing genius. Here’s an example: Remember what happened during the 2014 Super Bowl blackout. Well, Oreo Cookies immediately tweeted an image with an Oreo on a black background tweeting “you can still dunk in the dark.” Within a day, the image received nearly 15,000 retweets. Key point:  Keep your eyes open for opportunity during current and big events for marketing opportunities.Pretty cool, huh? I know. SO, go give it a try. Look up the next current event and plan to look for something you can tie your product, business or service to and give it a tweet. Tell me how it goes.

Unplug to Recharge

Anyone who knows me knows that I often have a very hefty load on my plate. You too? Most everyone I know has a lot going on, so I think you’ll find this blog a little helpful. Does your brain get busy? At least that's what I thought last Tuesday night. I was frazzled, a bit overwhelmed and wasn't sure how to get myself out of my creative pothole.

Instead of whining or complaining, I decided to embark on a mini mission. Much akin to the “Happiness Project” where the book's author taught herself how to truly be happy. Well, my project wasn't so much about being happy but more about letting my creativity run freely. I had gotten sucked into a place of thinking about the same things, days, work and stuff that I realized I hadn’t thought of anything fun, new or exciting for myself in a while. Isn’t it funny how you can do all that for others, but run dry when you try to do it for you? Well, I wasn’t going to let that go. Instead, I decided to shake my brain up a bit and get my creativity working for me.

Here was the first thing I did and it worked, so I’m sharing it with you.

Unplug. I made it my mission to spend at least one afternoon completely unplugged. Sound impossible? It isn’t, it just takes doing it. I promise, you’ll live to blog about it. In fact, you must do it. Not only is it great for your data plan (data plans are the worst) but it actually refreshes the mind to mentally check out from your phone. Why? Because mobile devices are entirely distracting. What I've noticed with mobile devices is that my mind is constantly focused on it, even when it isn't in my hand. “What next on my list to do? Who is calling/texting/tweeting me? Did I send that email?” Sounds familiar? So many of those questions pop into my mind and it can be overwhelming. I'm not the only one who thinks this way. Did you know there is a ‘National Day of Unplugging' that calls for users to “Stop the constant emailing, texting, tweeting and Facebooking to take time to notice the world around you. Unite with loved ones. Cherish your health. Go outside. Find silence.” This mobile-silence can reset your mind and get you back on track in no time. Don’t just take my word for it, try it for yourself. Then, come tell me what happened. I can’t wait to hear it. The more you find a way to refresh, the further you’ll be able to go.

Positive View for You

5/6/2021

Your perspective determines your actions, so taking a positive view is essential. Having a positive view will push you to take positive actions with a positive attitude. You can then go through this situation not just surviving but thriving.

How exactly should you view this situation then?

Well, I believe that you should view it as an opportunity to reinvent yourself. View it as your chance to do something new that will take your life to the next level.

Here are some tips on how to re-invent YOU.

1. Identify your core skills.

Reinventing yourself is defined as going a new direction. But best practice is it will be based on the foundation that you have built before. That foundation = Your Core Skillset.

I use ‘core’ to highlight that you need to look deeper. For instance, you might think that your skill is writing articles but your core skill may actually be connecting different ideas and communicating them.

Looking below the surface helps you repackage those core skills in a new way. Using the example above, writing articles is just one way to express your core skills. You may find others.

2. Imagine new possibilities.

Having identified your core skills, you can then imagine new possibilities. Remember on the movie Love Jones when Larenz Tate’s character did his poem and there was the line he said “it’s not that you’ve fallen out of love- you’ve lost sight of the possibilities”. How can you use your core skills to provide value to people in a new way? Get creative. Use your imagination. Kill the negative voices that try to hinder it. Allow yourself to move in an unexpected direction.

3. Ignite your passion for learning.

Along with imagining all the new possibilities, you need to build a passion for learning. Did you just ask why? Because reinventing yourself requires you to learn new things along the way. If you make it a burden, you won’t go far. So make it a delight instead.

I love thinking about all the possibilities. Don’t you? What ways are you thinking of or would you like to reinvent yourself? Please share.

To Your Success,
